As we approach the November 2026 elections, citizens across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut are being inundated with advertisements and messages from candidates running for office at the local, state, and federal levels.
Every election is important, and the results have a direct impact on the lives of individuals, families, and communities—not only throughout New England, but across our nation. This election cycle is no different.
As believers, however, we are called to approach election season with a perspective rooted in God’s Word rather than fear, uncertainty, or political division.
So, what should our posture be during this election season?

- Remember That God Is Ultimately in Control
Isaiah 9:6–7 reminds us:
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.”
What a powerful reminder that the government ultimately rests upon the shoulders of Jesus Christ!
Jesus knows the current condition of our states and our nation. He sees the challenges we face, the decisions being made, and the hearts of those in leadership.
Scripture tells us in Hebrews 1:3 and Romans 8:34 that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven and continually intercedes for us.
Because of this truth, we do not need to approach election season with fear. We serve a God who loves us, knows the condition of our hearts and our nation, and is continually interceding on our behalf.
Our confidence is not found in the outcome of an election, but in the sovereignty and faithfulness of God.
- Recognize God’s Authority Over Leadership
Romans 13:1, Daniel 2:21, and Luke 1:52 remind us that God is sovereign over those in positions of authority. He raises up leaders and removes them according to His purposes.
As followers of Christ, we must acknowledge God’s authority over the leadership of our states and nation.
We are also instructed in 1 Timothy 2:1–2 to pray for those in authority. Regardless of political affiliation or personal opinion, we should thank God for those who are currently serving in leadership and faithfully lift them up in prayer.
Proverbs 29:2 (NKJV) tells us:
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.”
As we prepare for the upcoming elections, let us pray that the Holy Spirit would move upon the hearts of voters, giving them wisdom and discernment as they consider the candidates before them.
May we seek leaders who demonstrate righteousness, integrity, humility, and a genuine desire to serve the people they represent.
- Encourage the Church to Pray, Seek Wisdom, and Vote
The Church has an important responsibility during election season. Rather than becoming discouraged, fearful, or disengaged, believers should seek the Lord and prayerfully consider their role in the electoral process.
Let us pray for the Church in our cities, regions, states, and across the nation to rise up and participate in the upcoming elections.
Pray that believers would seek God’s wisdom and discernment as they evaluate each candidate on the ballot. May their decisions be guided by biblical principles, thoughtful consideration, and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Our responsibility is not simply to cast a vote, but to approach that decision prayerfully, recognizing that our choices have an impact on our communities and future generations.
Moving Forward in Faith, Not Fear
As November approaches, let us remember that our hope does not rest in any political party, candidate, or elected official. Our hope is firmly established in Jesus Christ.
We can participate in the electoral process while remaining confident in God’s sovereignty. We can pray for our leaders, seek wisdom in our decisions, and trust that the Lord remains faithful regardless of the outcome.
May we be a people who pray faithfully, vote prayerfully, and trust God completely.
