A few years ago, several Pennsylvania county commissioners invited Leaders of Faith to help develop an ongoing fellowship and Bible study for commissioners across the Commonwealth. What began as an opportunity to gather has grown into a meaningful time of encouragement, prayer, and spiritual connection among public servants.
Each year, the commissioners hold three gatherings—one in Harrisburg, another in Hershey, and a summer gathering hosted at various locations throughout Pennsylvania. This summer, we had the privilege of meeting at Kalahari Resorts in the Pocono Mountains.
Our keynote speaker, Don Pleau, Corporate Operations Analyst at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, shared a powerful personal testimony about his journey of faith and his experiences in the business world. Several county commissioners also shared meaningful stories about how God has worked in their lives, while others led the group in prayer.
There is something special that happens when leaders who carry significant responsibilities come together around the table, open God’s Word, and pray for one another. Political and personal differences can easily divide people, but prayer has a way of changing the atmosphere. It is harder to see someone as an enemy when you have prayed together.
In addition to these gatherings, the commissioners participate in a monthly prayer call that provides another opportunity for encouragement, fellowship, and prayer.
As we have walked alongside these leaders, we have gained a greater appreciation for the burdens they carry while serving their communities. Public leadership is not easy. Leaders quickly discover the truth that you cannot please everyone all the time. They also face pressures that affect not only them personally, but often their families as well.
At Leaders of Faith, we are grateful for the opportunity to come alongside these county commissioners and help create a place where they can meet in the spirit of Jesus—encouraging one another, growing in their faith, and praying together.
