Leaders of Faith was honored to participate in the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Prayer Breakfast held during the annual NCSL Legislative Summit. The breakfast welcomed approximately 155 legislators, spouses, and ministry leaders representing states from across the nation for a morning of fellowship, encouragement, prayer, and biblical inspiration.
The vision for these legislative prayer breakfasts traces back to 1992, when United States Senator Ted Stevens, serving as chairman of the National Prayer Breakfast, invited legislators from every state to attend the national gathering in Washington, D.C. Many returned home inspired to begin prayer breakfasts within their own state legislatures—a vision that continues to bear fruit more than three decades later.
Building Relationships Across the Nation
One of the greatest blessings of the conference was the opportunity to build relationships with legislators from numerous states.
During the opening reception, meaningful conversations were held with members of the Georgia delegation, who shared about a weekly legislator-led prayer gathering that has become a source of encouragement within their state. They also expressed interest in strengthening connections with Leaders of Faith and participating in future prayer breakfast initiatives.
New relationships were also established with legislators from New Jersey, opening the door for potential ministry opportunities in that state. Time was spent reconnecting with members of the Pennsylvania delegation and meeting new legislators from the Commonwealth. These conversations reinforced the importance of continued encouragement and prayer for those serving in public office.
Additional connections were made with legislators from South Carolina and many other states represented throughout the conference, reminding us that God is raising up believers who desire to faithfully serve Him in government.
A Message of Hope, Faith, and Love
The prayer breakfast featured singing, reports from states, remarks from NCSL leadership, a visit from Pennsylvania House Speaker, and an inspiring message from former Congressman Randy Hultgren.
Throughout the morning, several powerful themes emerged:
- Share Your Faith. NCSL President Marcus Evans encouraged believers not to keep their faith private but to boldly share the hope of Christ with others.
- Fear Not. Scripture reminds us 366 times, “Do not fear.” God’s promise, “I am with you,” remains the foundation for every leader facing difficult decisions.
- Hope Over Despair. From Stephen in the Book of Acts to the heroic sacrifice of Flight 93 passenger Todd Beamer, hope in Christ produces courageous action even in the darkest moments.
- Love Over Contempt. Jesus prayed in John 17 that His followers would be united in love. As Congressman Hultgren observed, “It’s hard to hate someone once you’ve heard their story.” Genuine relationships have the power to overcome division.
- Faithfulness Matters. The lives of John Quincy Adams, William Wilberforce, Pastor John Newton, and Abraham Lincoln remind us that faithful service often leaves an eternal legacy. One person’s obedience can influence generations to come.
A recurring reminder throughout the morning was simple yet profound: God is faithful. Our confidence is never found in circumstances but in the God who walks with His people.
Looking Ahead
Legislators from numerous states—including Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, Nebraska, Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, Washington, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas, Illinois, Arkansas, and South Carolina—were represented, demonstrating the growing desire among public servants to gather around prayer and the Scriptures.
Leaders of Faith is grateful for every opportunity to serve behind the scenes, encourage elected officials, and help create environments where relationships are strengthened and faith is renewed.
Please continue to pray for our nation’s legislators. Ask the Lord to grant them wisdom, courage, humility, and hearts that seek His direction as they serve their constituents. We are encouraged to see God at work in state capitols across America and look forward to the doors He continues to open for ministry.
